When considering the role of chiropractic in managing older adults, one must first consider the incidence of specific conditions in older adults. One of the most common is chronic lower back pain and this is what most often brings the older adult to the chiropractor. Therefore this “essential list” will first review the epidemiology of CLBP in older adults. Next it is important to understand the unique nature of treating the older adult. We will look at common treatment strategies for pain in older adults. Next is the importance of being aware of recent RCT’s that specifically have enrolled older adults and their outcome. Finally we must evaluate the safety of the utilization of chiropractic care in older adults.
